Dear Parents,

Happy New Year to you all!

We have started back this term with great excitement around the school as we go ‘time travelling’ across the ages! It is our History Themed Week and each class is studying a different period in time. The children have been put into mixed age groups to ‘travel through time’ as they move around the classes for a short experience of each event. The remainder of the week is being used for extra research into the classes chosen time period.

The classes are studying the following events:

Owl class: 1912 – the race to the South Pole

Puffin class: 2550BC – ancient Egyptians

Nightingale class: 1854 – Florence Nightingale

Kingfisher class: 1920 – Iver Heath 100 years ago

Swan class: 1969 – the first moon landing

Woodpecker class: 1939-45 – World War Two

Nursery are looking at changes in our homes over the past 100 years

Please remember to ask your children about the exciting adventures they are going on!

We will be holding a parent workshop to support parents with their children’s learning of phonics and reading on Thursday 23rd January. This will be a chance for you to come into school for a short presentation and then to visit the classrooms to see how phonics and reading are taught at our school. The morning is designed to help parents understand a bit more about the teaching of reading and phonics and so provide you with further skills to support your children in their learning. The session will be from 9.00am to approximately 10.15am.

Polite reminder: please can I remind everyone that we have all signed an agreement to say that we will not put photos of other people’s children onto social media. Social media includes apps such as Instagram, facebook and whatsapp. It can be very upsetting, and even dangerous, for some parents to see or hear that their children are on social media when they do not wish them to be. Thank you for your support and understanding with this.

As always if you have any concerns or questions please do not hesitate to come in and see me.

Yours sincerely

Mrs J Baker
