Owls - Reception Class
Welcome to the Owl class web-page!
Week beginning 18th November 2019
This week we will be finding out about healthy foods and sorting foods into groups of healthy food and foods we should eat as a treat.
In maths we will be finding the total number of objects in 2 groups. We will also be learning the positional language of "behind" and "next to".
Our sounds this week are: j, v, w
Our tricky words are: up, him
Purple sound books will be changed on Mondays. Please practise these sounds each week.
These consists of words made from the sounds we are learning and your child should practise sounding out and blending them to read the words. There are also 2 'tricky' words included on each wall that they will have to learn by sight as they can not be sounded out.
Our tricky words are - not, an
Our reading scheme begins with the very important step of wordless books, which we use to develop the children's vocabulary, observation skills and ability to form sentences.
The children will move onto books with words when we feel they have sufficient phonic knowledge as our books are phonic based. They should still continue to develop their story telling skills.
10 maths bags will be sent out every Friday (to be returned by the following Wednesday). This means that your child will receive a maths bag every 3 weeks.
PE is on Tuesday mornings. Please ensure your child has their full PE kit in school for the whole week as there may be additional PE sessions.

Rory the class bear
The children will be taking it in turn to bring Rory home each day. Please can we ask that you do ensure you return him everyday as the children look forward to finding out who is next. If you get him on a Friday - lucky you - as you do not have to bring him back till Monday.
We visit the school library on a Friday afternoon. The children can choose one book each week to be returned the following Friday.

We are always looking for ways of celebrating your child's achievements but we realise there is not always time to speak to us directly. Please help yourself to the speech bubbles outside the classroom or download them here and let us know of any exciting event or achievement that we can discuss with your child. These can be handed to a member of staff or put in your child's book bag.
